Red and White

I found this post difficult. I am an inexperienced photographer and it is not easy taking good pictures in the bright snow. I am learning all about the different settings. We are in the middle of a snow storm. 30 centimeters (12 inches) expected.. School closures and hundreds of flights cancelled.

  1. white is difficult, especially the bright white of a fresh snow but I think you pulled it off brilliantly!

  3. Having a hard time with the snow here too with my pics. Yours looks great, mine come so bright they are blinding. Youre doing great!

  4. Say what you like, I think you did a great job. I love the high contrast and who ever thought white could be so challenging. You think, it's just like a white background but its difficult.
Keep on because you are doing very well.

  5. I love the shot. There are two things with snow that help a lot. One is to over expose (your camera's sensors naturally want to turn everything grey so you want to over expose to make it lighter. You can do this either by increasing your ISO, decreasing your shutter speed or increasing the aperture.) The other thing is the snow often looks very blue. The best thing to do is adjust your white balance. Best thing is using the custom white balance feature on your camera (I don't know which camera you have but I always go to youtube as SOMEONE will have uploaded a simple video explaining exactly how to do it). Just search for "taking pics in snow" That's how I figured out a bunch of stuff in the past! So overexpose and adjust your white balance and you will get the perfect shot :)

    1. Thanks for the tips Gemma and your nice comment. I did increase and decrease the ISO to see if there was much difference. I did not try the other suggestions. I will also check the internet for videos and I will start bugging Kim more. I am glad I have 46 more weeks to practice.

    2. Much better to adjust the shutter speed (make it slower). and play with the white balance!
